About Dranetz-BMI

Dranetz-BMI traces its history back to 1962, with the founding of Dranetz Engineering Laboratories, which would become the recognized pioneer of the power quality monitoring industry. In 1996, Dranetz was merged with BMI which developed in response to the growing market for intelligent monitoring systems to capture and analyze power quality phenomena that would disrupt industrial processes and computer systems. In January 2007, Dranetz-BMI was acquired by Gossen Metrawatt of Germany as a vehicle with which to address the global demand for power quality instrumentation.

Power quality and reliability problems cost businesses billions of dollars each year in lost revenue, process improvements, and scrapped product. For more than 40 years, Dranetz-BMI has worked with companies, utilities, and government agencies to understand the cause of these disturbances, resolve problems, and provide proactive methods for preventing future problems. We also have a commitment to industry-wide education—sharing our knowledge through our leadership within the IEEE and other industry organizations, delivering power quality seminars, authoring technical articles, participating in professional conferences, and writing books such as The Dranetz-BMI Handbook for Power Quality Analysis.

Dranetz-BMI’s PowerXplorer™ family of products again set the new industry standard by combining the most technologically advanced feature set in the market with a color touch screen, “super smart” automatic instrument setups, and a unique annunciator “report card” that instantly characterizes power quality events. Moreover, users can drill down for more information or download data to a memory card for PC analysis using the Company’s DranView software. Each instrument also meets key domestic and international standards, including IEEE 1159, EN50160, and the new IEC 61000-4-30 Class A standards. These products integrate the most advanced feature set available in a power monitoring instrument, and have the ability to capture high frequency transients generated by fast switching electronics, medical diagnostic equipment, lightning and load shifting, with an easy-to-navigate, color, graphical user interface, with unique proprietary AnswerModules to pinpoint source and cause of disturbances.

Dran-View is a Windows-based package that enables power professionals to simply and quickly visualize and analyze power monitoring data, and automatic report writing. A simple mouse click allows you to quickly scroll through data, zoom in on disturbances, trend data, filter events, evaluate statistics, and perform advanced harmonic and interharmonic analyses., by incorporating powerful analytical capabilities and customizable options to meet the needs of each individual user.

The Encore Series continues to revolutionize permanent monitoring system for power quality, energy and demand, and process monitoring, following the Signature System, which was the first web-browser based system with an advanced feature set. This next generation of permanently installed systems, which builds on the IEC compliance and user interface advantages of the PowerXplorer family and the communications options of the Signature System The Encore Series' configurable design allows users to specify the right instrument configuration for their specific application. Now you can have your choice of voltage, current and data acquisition modules to build from one to four instruments in a single compact, cost-effective format.

The heart of Encore Series is its web browser-based Encore Series Software. This advanced, intelligent software is both a system controller and a user interface for your entire system. Encore Series Software can be used in any application, from small systems with a few instruments to very large multi-point, facility-wide or utility monitoring systems with 50 or more points.

Headquartered in Edison, NJ, Dranetz-BMI manufactures its instruments in the US at its ISO9001-ceritified facilities. Besides the company’s full line of handheld, portable, and permanently installed power monitoring instruments, site audits and power quality studies can be provided by its sister company, Electrotek Concepts, which are world-renowned power quality consultants.

Harmonic Differnces
Harmonics are typically grouped by their harmonic number, either odd or even. Odd are the 3, 5, 7, 9, etc and even being the 2,4,6,8,…and so on. There is another grouping used, called the triplens, which are the 3, 6, 9, 12
